I have a new house that has been in the works for a while. I’ve been trying to get out of the rental market for a few years and the past two years things fell through at the last minute.
The current acquisition is a nice place on three acres. Some woods to screen it off from neighbors. Full walk out basement. All the modern conveniences. It is new construction but been sitting without a resident for over a year.
But already my project list is growing:
1. It will need a back deck. The existing back door is about ten feet above grade. Watch that first step.
2. Half the basement is unfinished. That’s where my workshop will go. I’m thinking about extending wiring, lighting, finishing the walls, sound insulating, etc.
3. Media room in the other “finished” half of the basement.
4. Back yard fence. (A.K.A “the dog’s bathroom”).
5. Hot tub in the back yard. Maybe integrated with the deck.
So, if you have any good ideas on any of that stuff, feel free to send it my way.
Radio Fence for the dog. Bury a wire, the dog can’t cross it. The downside is you have to train the dog, and he has to wear a collar for it. Also, any utulity work might result in a cut wire. But, this would cost a few hundred instead of a few thousand and you don’t have to look at a fence.
The dog will learn the limits of where it can go, and will stay in for awhile even when the batteries in the collar are dead. Eventually they figure it out and you need new batteries.
I have the wireless radio version. You don’t have to bury a wire. I’d rather have the wire, you can then keep them out of the garden and landscaping. The wireless just has a 90′ radius.
Of course burying the wire would be a pain in the behind or cost quite a bit to have someone do it. But it is something to consider unless you want a fence.
What about finding a house that has more of what you’re seeking, so you have less to do after moving in?
Before you build anything watch a few episodes of Holmes on Holmes and Holmes Inspection on the DIY Network. Mike Holmes knows construction and is a perfectionist.
Easier said than done. You ever been married?
I can only imagine how your house looks like now. HAving a home theater is is what i love most since my husband and 2 boys enjoy watching movies and gaming and stuff. You can have your own popcorn machine in your theater room too! That will be an awesome addition to your home theater! You can take my word for it!
I would suggest you find a place for . . . Sharks with frickin lasers attached to their heads!
Gott that covered. You have no idea how hard it was to find a hollowed out volcano.
Thanks.
How does that keep rabbits out of the yard? Do I need to buy collars for all of them too? That could bet expensive. Dog like to eat rabbits. They are very bad for his digestion.
Purchase the wooded area or it will be developed.
Good idea. Not a problem. It’s already part of my property. More beyond is part of my neighbor’s property.

Nonsense. Rabbits make excellent dog food. I’m going to experiment with using them for chicken feed.
I don’t mind the occasional rabbit in my yard, but I live where I live because I can shoot on my property.
Raw rabbit is not good for this dog. He can’t keep it down. And at that point it dosent do the rabbit much good either.
Feed the dog to the rabbit, then.
As soon as Obama sends me his secret recipe I’m eating the filth hound. I suggest you do the same. Anything dogs can do, ducks can do better. How will the ducks deal with intruders? Suicide vests. It’s almost as if the tall, slender, Indian Runner were bred for that very purpose. It’s a win-win situation; you get duck and human jerky. The ducks, of course, would swim in your hot tub located in the gunzebo.
But the real question is where will your moonshine still be located?
If you’re going to be doing electrical work, get those awesome push wire connectors, they make everything a lot easier. Unless you make a mistake…
