Alexander was convicted of attempted murder after she rejected a plea deal for a three-year prison sentence. She said she did not believe she did anything wrong.
So. She didn’t get 20 years for firing warning shots. She was convicted of attempted murder. The jury didn’t believe her that it was self defense. Stupid journalists and story editors. You have to read almost to the end of the story to find that the headline is completely wrong.
Looks like the Black community in Florida couldn’t care less about this case. Black on black crime and blacks trying to not be victims of other blacks is not important.
I don’t know why the jury convicted her, but I am guessing it had something to do with LOTS OF EVIDENCE. Something that the writer of this story might have looked into.
I am against the concept of the plea deal as being inherently unjust and contrary to the basic principle of our common law rights. In every criminal case for felony, they government should prove their case in court, charging only the crimes they can prove. Making someone bargain for his life creates an additional avenue for injustice and is a form of testifying against himself that the constitution is supposed to safeguard against. The only purpose of the plea deal is to make life easy on the prosecutors at the expense of the person who has been charged with a crime.
UPDATE: Same prosecutor as Zimmerman case. Someone doesn’t like ANYONE defending himself/herself with a gun.
