In the courtyard of the Pentagon this morning. Vendors from the TIDES, demonstrating all their wonderful overpriced GewGaws that they will sell the government. Bicycles, tents, shelters, solar panels, and Satphones.
Evidently the word hasn’t gotten around that we are broke.
This speaks of several things.
1. The vendors believe that it is business as usual. They fully expect the DoD to go back into spending spree mode soon and start buying a lot of “nice to have not not essential” stuff.
2. The vendors believe that the DoD purchasing agents believe that this is business as usual and that those agents also will not have very tight control on how they spend dwindling government money.
And to top it off, I saw on CNN this morning that our government had decided (who decided?) to restore aid to Egypt. WOW. Just, WOW. We can’t even agree to fund out own government but we can fund Egypt’s.
