There have been several issues over the years that have come to the top of the news:
1. Immigration reform.
2. Voter ID reform
3. Gun control
4. NSA gathering information
5. The census
I would like to posit for you the idea that we may already have the technology to solve all of these problems.
Let Google do it.
They likely already have all the information needed to tell the US government exactly how many American citizens are in the USA from year to year and how many are living overseas. They can tell how many speak foreign languages and which ones are talking to al-Quaida operatives. They are not restrained by any of the Constitutional laws that holds back the US government on search and seizure because they are only using information that they have gathered freely. They know where everyone lives, what their status is and if they have met the legal conditions for firearms ownership in their jurisdiction. They have the software to gather and report all that information including the home addresses of known criminals that the police can’t seem to find.
The solution is for the government to get out of all those businesses and just contract Google to provide specific services.
These used to be unimaginably hard data problems to track everyone and what they are doing. Our government would spend trillions to have that capability. Google already did it without a dime of tax dollars. The future arrived and no one even noticed.
